CONSUMER AWARENESS PROGRAM
We have observed that in rural areas the innocent consumers are becoming the constant victim of cheating by businessmen, traders, service providers etc. Innovative ways are being devised by the traders day by day to cheat the consumers. Therefore NET to has been taking innovative measures since last few years to save the innocent consumers from the exploitation of dishonest traders especially in rural areas of Subarnapur district of Odisha by organizing educative programmes and disseminating the knowledge on Consumer Protection laws, Councils at district, state & national level etc
With a view to save these consumers and educate them regarding their rights, NET organized a no. of consultative sessions involving the PRI members, volunteers, school teachers, school children, SHG members etc. in Kesianga block of Kalahandi district. Concerned Govt. officials and volunteers from the local NGOs were involved in the program. The resource persons sensitized the participants regarding consumer protection laws, its application and how to protect themselves from the dishonest businessmen. Leaflets were distributed highlighting the different consumer laws, consumer protection councils etc. among the participants who were requested to disseminate the knowledge in their respective areas to safeguard the common interest of the consumers.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Human beings cannot live without plants since all the ingredients for living like oxygen, food, others material needs are provided by the plants. The plants help in reducing the level of pollution in the atmosphere by reducing the content of carbon di-oxide and increasing the oxygen content whereas the human being does the reverse. Plants also are instrumental in keeping the atmosphere cool and thereby attracting more rain. Besides the above, plants provide food, fodder, fuel, medicine, wood, flower etc. to meet the day to day needs of the human beings. As an initiative to check the environmental degradation NET during the year organized awareness programmes in Kesinga block of Kalahandi district of Odisha involving folk plays.
Also during the year on report a decentralized nursery was raised at Kesinga under Kalahandi district of Odisha in which 10,000 plant seedlings were raised and then distributed to the local inhabitants free of cost for planting in their own backyard. Such an initiative will help the people to meet their fuel wood and fodder demand to some extent in due course and help in reducing the load on natural forest resources.
AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON HIV/AIDS
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a condition of human body created due to the attack of Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV). HIV weakens the immune system of the human body and as a result the body becomes vulnerable to opportunistic infections and subsequent loss of life within a very short period. Scientists are yet to find any remedy for the disease therefore AIDS is accounting thousands of deaths every day throughout the world. Government is taking special measures to prevent the disease. So it is very essential to prevent the disease rather than going for its curative strategies and this can be possible through mass awareness campaigns
During the reporting year, NET through various educative programmes such as road side plays, rally, debate competitions, posters etc. tried its best to create mass consciousness among the general public especially the vulnerable population against the incurable disease in Keonjhar district. Twenty four nos. of suspecting cases were identified & then referred to Voluntary Confidential Counseling & Testing Center for screening of HIV.
WELFARE OF CHILD/WOMEN LABOUR
Engagement of children in any work thus preventing them from pursuing education is an illegal practice by our law. Despite the existence of law the child labour is rampant in rural as well as urban areas and to stop the illegal practice concerted effort is needed both at Govt. & Non Govt. level.
To rehabilitate the child labour engaged in hazardous activities NET rescued child laborers from different professions and admitted in the child labour schools. In the said schools meant for their rehabilitation the child labours are receiving elementary education, vocational skill training. They are being provided free nutrition & healthcare services to keep themselves healthy and fit.
Also an educative programme was organized for women laborers at Kesinga under Kalahandi district in which the various welfare issues like labour laws, labour welfare initiatives, various welfare schemes were discussed and knowledge was disseminated to them
WELFARE OF WOMEN IN DISTRESS
Although we have made tremendous headways in various fields and can be compared to any developed nations but one has seen a very little transformation in the social structure. Discrimination in the name of gender is quite prevalent in our society that is the reason why girls do not enjoy the equal justice as their male counterparts. The main job of the women folk has been limited to look after the family without any exposure to outside world. This is only because of social system of our conservative society, which is forcing them to indoor depriving them to contribute in the national building activities.
Our organization has been giving special emphasis to such issues and has been assisting them in various ways. During the year on report nearly 78 nos. of poor and helpless ladies were identified and provided with skill training and subsequent support for starting self employment units. Also hundreds of such poor ladies hailing from Lanjigarh block of Kalahandi district were identified and involved in SHGs. Then they were provided with credit assistance from financial institutions and in the process they have started their own micro enterprise and earning their livelihood.
Also a Legal Literacy Camp was organized at Lanjigarh in which 100 women participated. Issues relating Dowry, Domestic Violence dominated the proceedings of the programme.
PROMOTION OF OBCs AND MINORITIES
Our constitution has the mandate of promoting equity and social justice among all classes of our society. Since various studies have confirmed that the OBCs and Minorities are lagging behind others in various fields, Government is therefore adopting different welfare measures from time to time for uplifting their status in the society so that social equity can be maintained. NET has also been promoting several measures in promoting the development of these unprivileged sections of the society.
In all of our projects beneficiaries hailing from these sections are being given first priority. We are also in the process of availing assistance from the concerned Ministries of Government of India for different projects for welfare of these sections of the society. We are in the process of starting a Craft Center at Kesinga, Kalahandi for providing skill training to OBC beneficiaries in tailoring, embroidery and knitting for their gainful employment.
WELFARE OF YOUTH
In order to guide the youths and utilize their strength, courage for national building initiatives, NET has been organizing various welfare measure for them since the very beginning of the organization. Skill enhancement activities are the one which are being organized regularly to empower them economically.
During the year a camp was organized for the youths at Lanjigarh under Kalahandi district of Odisha. Hundreds of such youths were trained in different trades and provided with subsequent support for starting income generating activities. A counseling center is being managed at Kesinga under Kalahandi district to guide the youths in the field of employment, community development, sports and higher education.
PISCICULTURE
In order to support the organization economically Pisciculture is being promoted in three ponds at Kesinga under Kalahandi district of Odisha. Five nos. of poor households with experience in the field of fishery were engaged to earn their livelihood. This initiative is being used as a center for extension of pisciculture in the area by providing training to the aspiring farmers.
CONCLUSION
NET as a nonprofit making voluntary agency has been working within certain limits and at its best to achieve the stated objectives with the help of its work force. It can do better if further cooperation and assistance is provided to it in a continued manner. At last we hope to get love and affection and cooperation from all those associated with us in any way which will encourage us to work better for the society.

HIV/AIDS AWARENESS PROGRAMME
Weakening of immune system of human being and the resulting condition in the body is called Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). This condition is created due to the intervention of the virus called Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV). Due to AIDS the human body becomes vulnerable to opportunistic infections endangering the host life. Till date there is no cure for the diseases, therefore prevention is the only way to control the disease.
During the reporting year, NET organized a Targeted Intervention Programme in Bhubaneswar block of Khurda district by involving the truckers & migrant laborers. Three hundred drivers & migrants were involved in various educative programmes on HIV/AIDS and provided with contraceptives. Consultative meetings were organized in which they were educated about the risk behaviors, causes and prevention measures of AIDS. Forty two nos. of suspecting cases were referred to Voluntary Confidential Counseling & Testing Center (VCCTC), Bhubaneswar for screening of HIV.

As an initiative to check the environmental degradation NET during the year organized awareness programmes in Kokasara block of Kalahandi district of Odisha involving folk plays.
Also plantation drive was organized. The public was motivated to undertake plantation on mass scale in their own backyard, educational institutions, road sides for safeguarding the environment

Rampant & uncontrolled deforestation, excessive use of natural resources, multi fold increase in the no. of vehicles and industries etc. have all contributed to the environmental degradation and unexpected climatic changes creating panic all-around forcing the Govt. authorities to take immediate & strict measures to control the .slide in the environment.
Realizing the importance of the cultural programmes our organization has been giving due emphasis to cultural activities since long. During the year a series of cultural programmes were organized at Kesinga under district in which folk groups performed different songs and dances. The programme was enjoyed by thousands of people around the block.
