Livelihood security for BPL households

Annual report(2012-13):

Enhancing the quality of living of the families living below poverty line is one of the priority sectors of NET. Thus we are applying strenuous effort to improve the quality of living of these poor and marginalized sections of the society especially by involvement of the  ladies through economic initiatives. Since last year we are applying concerted effort to provide sustainable livelihood to poor & asset less ladies hailing from Lanjigarh block of Kalahandi district of Odisha through small animal husbandry like goat rearing.

Under this initiative support is being extended for skill up-gradation & subsequent linkages for sustainable income generation to poor & asset less ladies in Goat Rearing. During the project 50 BPL beneficiaries have been provided with skill training in goat rearing along with raw materials like female goats & bucks with insurance, feeds, feeders, medicines, insurance for goats etc. for production and income generation. Follow up services were provided by the staffs and the technical input by the veterinary experts under the project thus making it a grand success. The beneficiaries who have been mobilized into 04 SHGs & empowered through capacity building programmes for strengthening thrift & credit activities. They are now earning more than Rs.1,500/- per month in an average thus supplementing the family income.

Apart from skill up-gradation, support services like Health Camps, Legal Awareness Camps, Adult Education, Creche facilities for the children of the beneficiaries have been the integral part of the project. The project has caught the attention of one and all in the project area since it has helped in enhancing the socio-economic status of the beneficiaries by providing them the scope for earning with support services for increasing the quality of living.
